Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Dublin

psychodynamic psychotherapy Dublin

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Dublin: Psychodynamic means the relationship dynamics in our minds, or; the ideas, beliefs, experiences and feelings we learned from our relationship with all other people in our lives. These ‘lessons’ from life become the prism through which we see life and forms our identity.

People often say ‘well, everybody thinks that….’. No, YOU think that based on your experience. We feel that this is THE ‘norm’ but it was YOUR norm. All our ‘norm’ is limited simply by the fact that we only have our own experience to go on. We can only see things from our own side.

This ‘norm’ can be validated within the ‘cultural norm’. People from our county or country ‘all feel that….’ but this is limited in the same way as outlined above.

Rounded Insight

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is about getting insight into how you see you but also how your parents, siblings, friends, colleagues and partner see you. We need others and their perspectives to round out the picture of you. By understanding them, you will understand you more fully.

A psychodynamic psychotherapist will garner a detailed background picture of you. He or she will thread the links between you and the people in your life, giving you more of a 360 degree look at you.

To understand a flower, you have to understand the soil it came from, the temperature and light in the environment etc. Everything is relational.

Psycho-analyst Carl Jung said the first half of life is about conquering the external world, the second half is about withdrawing your projections from the world. Or getting a more grounded picture of your reality and acceptance of yourself.
